RD Swift Turbine plans

2002 The Birth of RD…

Renewable Devices was born when the Directors began work together to provide accessible renewable energy by developing a revolutionary design of wind turbine, along with providing engineering design consultacy to private and public sectors. Dr Dave Anderson a Chartered design engineer with a lifetime of experience as an engineer and project manager in the Scottish energy industry.  As a Director in a number of engineering companies he is one of Scotlands most acomplished renewable energy engineers . Dr Charlie Silverton an engineer with experience in both academia and industry since 1995 he is experienced in design engineering, energy forecasting and European projects for sustainability in renewable energy.

The Swift, unlike any other, was designed to draw energy from the turbulent winds experienced in the urban environment. With new and unique aerodynamic technology making operation virtually inaudible, the system was the first to be suitable for rooftop application. An intensive research, development and prototyping phase ensued.

2004 Renewable Devices Consultancy

In order to meet the ever-increasing demand for independent consultancy and engineering design services, RD Engineering Solutions (RDES) became a subdivision of Renewable Devices. Quickly establishing itself as a trusted source of expert design and renewable energy advice.  RDES is rated above the Fraunhoffer instite for subsea energy generation and went on to win a number of high profile public and private contracts for clients who ranged from the largest multi nationals in the world to small communities in the far North of Scotland.

2005 Swift Growth For The Silent Turbine…

RD Swift Turbines, now also a distinct subdivision of the RD Group, entered a rigorous pre-production stage. RD engineers focused on an ongoing development programme to ready the system for production, alongside an aggressive cost engineering plan to make the Swift financially affordable to consumers worldwide. RD Swift Turbines enters into a three year strategic relationship with Scottish and Southern Energy.

2006 RD Marine & RD Remote Power Join The Family…

RD Marine was incorporated in 2005 based on the wealth of experience from the design team in hydro and wind engineering. Investment was achieved to support the research and development of the “Otter” hydro turbine.

RD Remote Power manufactured and delivered the first Sustainable Energy Module and gifted it to Malawi in a joint programme with the Scottish Government and Scottish and Southern Energy to provide high-tech birthing facilities in the most remote places on the planet and RD Charitable Trust was born.

2007 International Investment…

With pre-production trials for Swift having proved a success and the mass manufacture of the production model underway, the company accepted a 2% equity investment from Insurance Group Australia, at a valuation of £40million. Simultaneously, a £4.5million strategic manufacturing and distribution deal was signed for the North American Market.

2008 Growth….

A sustainable energy module is now manufactured in Malawi by local engineers providing sustainable business and directly saving lives on the field. RD installs the largest micro wind farm in the world.

Swift sales increase and the production model turbine comes online and wins its category at the International Design Week Awards, coming second overall only to the iphone.

2009 Onwards And Upwards…

Renewable Devices continue to work at the forefront of the renewable energy industry providing designs across Europe and large scale wind power to hospitals, aswell as RDES delivering the largest biomass boiler in the EU

RD Swift Turbines have seen the Swift installed across the globe from Aberdeen to Adelaide including the tallest structure in the Southern Hemisphere, the Sky Tower in Auckland and one of the tallest buildings in New York State! Exclusive international agreements are being set up to ensure more focussed regional support for customers and installers, and demand continues to grow month on month.
