RD Swift Turbine plans

2002 The Birth of Renewable Devices…

Renewable Devices was born when the Directors began work together to provide accessible renewable energy by developing a revolutionary design of wind turbine, along with providing engineering design consultacy to private and public sectors. Dr Dave Anderson a Chartered design engineer with a lifetime of experience as an engineer and project manager in the Scottish energy industry.  As a Director in a number of engineering companies he is one of Scotlands most acomplished renewable energy engineers . Dr Charlie Silverton an engineer with experience in both academia and industry since 1995 he is experienced in design engineering, energy forecasting and European projects for sustainability in renewable energy.

The Swift, unlike any other, was designed to draw energy from the turbulent winds experienced in the urban environment. With new and unique aerodynamic technology making operation virtually inaudible, the system was the first to be suitable for rooftop application. An intensive research, development and prototyping phase ensued.

2004 Design Engineering

In order to meet the ever-increasing demand for independent consultancy and engineering design services, consultancy became a subdivision of Renewable Devices. Quickly establishing itself as a trusted source of expert design and renewable energy advice.  RDES is rated above the Fraunhoffer instite for subsea energy generation and went on to win a number of high profile public and private contracts for clients who ranged from the largest multi nationals in the world to small companies in the far North of Scotland.

2006 Swift Growth For The Silent Turbine…

Swift Turbines become a major component of the RD Group winning the Observer ethical award and enter into a rigorous pre-production stage. RD engineers focused on an ongoing development programme to ready the system for production, alongside an aggressive cost engineering plan to make the Swift financially affordable to consumers worldwide. RD enters into a three year strategic relationship with Scottish and Southern Energy and a company valuation of £20m .

2007 RD Marine …

RD Marine was incorporated  based on the wealth of experience from the design team in marine, avation, hydro and wind engineering. Investment was achieved to support the research and development of the “Otter” hydro turbine.  RD expands its consultancy in order to develop components for a number of off shore wind,  tidal and wave  machines for both large established engineering companies and small high-tech startups in the environment sector.

2008 International Investment…

pre-production trials for Swift  proved a success winning Design awards around the world.  With the mass manufacture of the production model underway, the company accepted a 2% equity investment from Insurance Group Australia, at a valuation of £40million. Simultaneously, a £4.5million strategic manufacturing and distribution deal was signed for the North American Market.  The Swift wins its category at the International Design Week Awards and sits as an overall finalist with the iphone.

2009 RD Charitable Trust …

Inspired by winning the international  Ashdon Award for sustainable development RD manufactured and delivered the first Sustainable Energy Module and gifted it to Malawi in a joint programme with the Scottish Government and Scottish and Southern Energy to provide high-tech birthing and medical facilities for the poorest and most remote places on the planet and RD Charitable Trust was born.

2010 Green Growth….

A sustainable energy module is now manufactured in Malawi by local engineers providing sustainable business and directly saving lives in the field.  RD Charitable trust recieves its charitable status aimed to enrich the lives of the energy poor, using the many years of experience gained in Renewable Devices’commercial business in the energy markets. Renewable Devices Green Growth programmes, delivered through Renewable Devices Charitable Trustad, advance environment, education, health and relief of poverty through stimulating and assisting rural communities to enter the renewable energy industry.

2011 Growth….

Swift sales increase and see the largest micro wind farm in the world come on line.  RD continue to work at the forefront of the renewable energy industry providing engineering design globally.  With the design and development of the Swift wind turbine complete, the group is restructured and streamlined with Renewable Devices Ltd taking on the marketing and distribution of the Swift wind turbine and RD Marine continuing development of the next generation of tidal stream turbines. Swift Turbines have seen the Swift installed across the globe from Aberdeen to Adelaide including the tallest structure in the Southern Hemisphere, the Sky Tower in Auckland and one of the tallest buildings in New York State! Exclusive international agreements are being set up to ensure more focussed regional support for customers and installers, and demand continues to grow month on month.

2012 Competitive Technology …

The Swift is independently tested on the Amsterdam World Trade centre  to produce more energy than PV for the same cost.    Permitted Development is given for the SWIFT and planning no longer a barrier across most of the UK.   RD is forming new exciting partnerships and looking forward to the next five years of sustainable and ethical design, production and development.

2013 Onwards And Upwards…

The microgeneration market continues to grow and the Swift wind turbine plays an increasingly important part of that growth. The group complete their move to a new factory in Roslin, near Edinburgh and, with room to expand in this new facility are looking forward to building on recent growth to deliver accessible renewable energy to customers worldwide.
